Wolfville's Town Council approved an operating budget totaling $10.1 million at the March 20, 2018 Town Council Meeting.
In reference to the budget approval, the CAO noted that “this is the second year that the Town has endeavoured to provide a comprehensive four-year budget and Operations Plan” and that “the 2018/22 Operations Plan will build on the successes and initiatives of the 2017/18 Fiscal Year and will ensure continued accountability and transparency related to operational activities”. The plan will be updated/amended annually during the budget process which will assist Council in prioritizing and planning various services intended to benefit the community. Council has once again managed to maintain and enhance its commitment to major infrastructure projects, while at the same time increasing the capacity for community infrastructure and programming. Key to this will be the celebrations throughout the year to mark the 125th anniversary of the Town’s incorporation.
The approved residential tax rate of $1.46 per $100 of assessment means that 89% of residential accounts will, on average, see an increase of 0.58% which is less than the 2017 cost of living increase of 1.1%. The majority of remaining accounts relate to new construction/major renovation. The operations budget continues, and in several areas enhances, Council priorities for the community. In 2018/19 the Town will:
The commercial tax rate of $3.57 per $100 leaves 50% of commercial accounts paying, on average, 2.56% less than previous year. Another 25% of accounts will see, on average, an increase of only 0.28%. Economic development continues to be a priority for Council and this year’s pan includes a number of projects/initiatives in support of this priority, including:
The Capital Budget continues Council’s focus on improving the basic street infrastructure as well as, community parks and amenities. Two residential streets are scheduled for infrastructure renewal; Gaspereau Avenue storm sewer upgrades, and Kent Avenue rebuild. Community Infrastructure projects include continued upgrades to Evangeline Park and year one of a multi-year enhancement to the East End Gateway. Year one of the East End Gateway includes expanding, milling and paving of the parking lot across from Willow Park. Overall, $3.48 million in capital projects are planned for 2018/19 as part of the Town’s ten year capital investment plan which totals over $34.03 million.
The complete 2018/19 Operations Plan will be available on the Town of Wolfville's website at www.wolfville.ca.

As Nova Scotians, it is important to stay healthy and well. When we have a health concern, we visit our family practice. Our health needs are changing and family practice is changing too.
Collaborative family practice teams have doctors, nurse practitioners, family practice nurses and other health providers working together to provide primary care in communities.
We know that accessing a family doctor or nurse practitioner can be a challenge for some people. Nova Scotia Health Authority is creating more and strengthening existing collaborative family practice teams across the province to improve access to the primary care you need.
We would like to share more about collaborative family practice teams, hear your thoughts, and learn what we need to know to make these teams a success in Nova Scotia.

The Town of Wolfville has embarked on a master plan exercise for East End Gateway, encompassing Willow Park trail connections, and the leased Nova Scotia Power land on the opposite side of Main Street. The master plan will aim to create a sense of arrival and place, create a welcoming space for people entering the town via Main Street, review and make recommendations regarding recreational uses of the site, improvements to trail connections throughout the area, and creation of a public open space that reflects the unique landscape of Wolfville and surroundings. The resulting design will provide the Town of Wolfville with a plan that can be implemented in stages over time.
The consultant for this project, Ekistics Plan + Design, has developed 2 high-level concept options for the site, which are available to view below. We are seeking your input on which concepts you prefer, what are your priorities for implementation, and what level of programming you feel is appropriate for Willow Park.

The Eastern Kings Memorial (EKM) Health Foundation recently celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its Grants Program. The Trustees and Staff of the Foundation are proud to have served the 63 communities in the Eastern Kings catchment area since 1996.
Background
The EKM Health Foundation is a charitable organization that funds health-related projects within Eastern Kings County.
The Foundation evolved from the closure in 1994 of the former Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital. Donations previously made to the former hospital were transferred to the Foundation with the intent that the income from these monies supports health-related projects in the local communities. The Foundation is directed by a volunteer Board consisting of 9 Trustees, along with an Administrative Assistant who manages the Office.
The EKM Health Foundation is pleased to accept donations, bequests, and other gifts. These gifts enable us to support healthier communities through giving. The Foundation also receives requests for financial support from various health-related organizations, funding projects through a bi-yearly grants program.
How does the EKM Health Foundation promote a healthier community?
The Foundation disburses approximately $150,000 annually to support:
