Sunday, July 14th artist: Kevin Kane

Kevin Kane has worn many musical hats over the years: solo artist, record producer, session musician, educator, guitar and amplifier builder, and founding member of multi-platinum selling Canadian band The Grapes Of Wrath, known for such 80s/90s hits as “Peace Of Mind”, “All The Things I Wasn’t”, "You May Be Right", "Backward Town", and “I Am Here". The original line up of the band is still performing today, more than 40 years after first forming.

Since 2017, Kevin has also been a member of Grapes contemporaries The Northern Pikes (whose hits include songs such as “She Aint Pretty”, “Teenland”, and “The Things I Do For Money”). Kane's first album with the band was “Forest Of Love” (2019) - featuring 3 of his compositions - and their most recent LP is "Time To Time" (2023). He is also half of the duo Kane & Potvin, with fellow Pike Bryan Potvin, releasing the albums “Live @ Andy’s” (2015) and “Kane & Potvin” (2016). As well, Kane is in the band FAUXKNOW (with his wife, Nadia), releasing the album “Tactics” (2016) and the EP “Sensitivity” (2022).

As a solo artist, Kevin's debut release was the starkly acoustic “Neighbourhood Watch” (1996), followed by “Timmy Loved Judas Priest” (2001), a collection of solo acoustic cover tunes featuring guest appearances by Neko Case and Veda Hille. Kane went for a full band approach on his third album, “How To Build A Lighthouse” (2007), which featured famed Brian Wilson percussionist Nelson Bragg on drums. His fourth album - “The Home Version” (2010) - was a career spanning collection of Grapes and solo material Kane was performing at house concerts, recorded live in a single session.

In addition to performing, Kane has produced or co-produced a number of albums for other artists such as Wayne Lavallee and Zumpano (a full list can be found in the discography section) and has appeared on albums and/or stage with musicians including Great Lake Swimmers, Neko Case, Faust, Sarah McLachlan, Brendan Canning, Jello Biafra, Holly McNarland, and D.O.A.

Originally from Kelowna and a long-time resident of Vancouver and Toronto, Kane now resides in Nova Scotia.
