Wolfville completes Municipal Plan Review as part of Housing Accelerator Action Plan
Wolfville, NS - Following a well-attended Public Hearing on May 13, Town Council unanimously passed their comprehensive Municipal Plan Review, successfully completing a key initiative under the Town's Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) Action Plan.
The updated Municipal Plan modernizes local land-use policies and zoning to encourage a wider variety of housing options with an emphasis on missing middle and non-market housing. The Plan also streamlines the development approval process, and supports sustainable, gentle growth across the Town.
The final Municipal Plan is the result of significant Committee and Working Group involvement and extensive public engagement. There was also rigorous Council deliberation, explained Wolfville Mayor, Jodi MacKay.
“Community feedback played a vital role in shaping policies that balance new housing needs with the character of our neighborhoods,” MacKay said. “Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this process and help shape these documents.”
Now, with Council’s approval, the final housekeeping edits are being made to the documents. Once complete, the documents will be submitted to the Director of Planning for the Province for a mandatory final review.
The provincial review period is expected to take sixty days. Upon provincial approval, the Town will formally adopt the updated plan and begin immediate implementation of the new Land Use Bylaw, Design Guidelines and Municipal Planning Strategy.
