The installation, done in partnership with the Town of Wolfville, will see the four hammocks installed along the park's west side, near the rose hedges. Once in place, the four hammocks will offer a relaxing space to put your feet up and enjoy the Park.

The project draws inspiration from the popular hammocks that were installed along the Halifax Waterfront a few years ago. The Wolfville hammocks use the same heavy-duty material, made by a Nova Scotia family-owned upholstery business, Maritime Canvas Converters.

The project also tapped structural engineer Phil Dennis, and Lorraine Landscaping to ensure the hammocks are safely installed in the park and that they will withstand weather, use, and wear.

Announced at Council in September 2023 and again at the Waterfront Park public engagement session that was part of the Wolfville Parks and Open Spaces Mater Planning process, the hammocks are being added to Waterfront Park to create a relaxing, inclusive space for people to stop, enjoy the scenery, and unwind.

Installation of the hammocks will begin in early March, weather dependent. 

As of February 26th, 2024 the sidewalk & accessible parking spots for the Visitor Information Centre (VIS), and the first four parking stalls south of the accessible VIC parking spots on Willow Ave will be closed to the public until further notice to facilitate safe demolition of the VIC.  These closures will remain in effect until the new Welcome Centre is substantially complete at the end of July 2024.

Additionally, four parking stalls south of the closed parking stalls will be blocked on Wednesday,  February 28th to facilitate delivery of a job site trailer on Friday morning.  Any vehicles left in these spots by Friday morning will be towed at the owner’s expense. Demolition crews will be on-site in Willow Park starting the week of Feb. 26 to begin the rebuild of "The VIC." 

Wolfville's well-loved Visitor Information Centre has been a landmark in Willow Park for many years but now, with support from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the popular destination is being reconstructed as a four-season facility.

The new Welcome Centre will be in the same spot, beside the splash pad, and offer accessible washrooms, a changing room and additional features that the current building lacks.

Plans are in the works to continue visitor supports and continuity of service for the Magic Wine Bus through the construction process.

Residents and visitors are asked to use caution around the site once construction begins.
