Municipal partners and a local not-for-profit society, Kings County Recreation Forward Association, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) confirming their desire to work together to construct a Regional Recreation Facility.

Mayors and CAOs from the Municipality of the County of Kings, Town of Kentville, and the Town of Wolfville, together with representatives of the Kings County Recreation Forward Association, recently signed an MOU outlining their shared vision for the facility. The Parties are interested in constructing an aquatic centre with a gymnasium, walking track, related amenities, and community rooms. The Town of Kentville also plans on attaching a new replacement arena to the proposed Regional Recreation Facility. The Municipality continues to work through closing conditions associated with the selected location in Coldbrook. The MOU provides a framework for moving forward as a collective and the drafting of an Intermunicipal Services Agreement (IMSA) that will detail how the municipal parties will manage the facility.

In part the Parties agreed to the following next steps:

• Incorporation of an IMSA to own the facility.
• Engagement of an Owner’s Engineer/Project Manager to coordinate the planning and construction phases of the project.
• Continual updating of cost estimates based on the most current information.
• Filing of applications for funding from external sources, including the Provincial and Federal Governments; and
• The management of procurement events associated with project management and design services.

The Association is responsible for contributing 25% of the Municipal Share of Capital Costs through public and corporate community fundraising. The costs to each municipal unit will be determined through a cost-sharing formula defined in the IMSA.

The Town of Kentville will be solely responsible for the capital costs after Federal, Provincial and Association contributions towards construction and the operations of an attached arena. The Town’s share of the capital cost of the arena will also be reduced by the Municipality of the County of Kings contributing $500,000.

Harvest Moon Trail Closure Notice

The Town of Wolfville advises residents and trail users that the stretch of trail off Elm Ave and behind the Farmers’ Market will be closed for construction beginning March 25 for approximately three weeks, or until work is completed.

This closure is for the installation of a concrete walkway as part of the ongoing improvements to the Harvest Moon Trail. 

During this time, a signed detour route will be in place. Trail users can access the detour via the driveway located by the Curling Club and the Farmers’ Market.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we complete this work and improve the trail.

As of April 1, Valley Waste is introducing a bi‑weekly bulky waste collection system. There are no more spring or fall clean-up events.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Each household and/or registered apartment unit may place up to two (2) bulky items out for collection on their regular scheduled collection day.
• Bulky items will be collected in the same truck as regular garbage bags and can be placed together in your normal curbside collection location.
• Bulky waste includes large household items such as furniture, mattresses, and similar oversized items.
• Items placed too early, too late, or more than the two‑item limit will not be collected.
• As with the old system, certain bulky items cannot be collected as part of curbside collection (ex. electronics, fluorescent tubes, tires, hazardous waste)

Any uncollected solid waste must be removed by the end of the collection day.

The Town of Wolfville is hiring two seasonal Civil Survey Technicians / Civil Engineering Technicians to support municipal infrastructure projects. One position is confirmed, while the second is contingent upon grant funding approval. This opportunity is specifically geared toward youth under 30, including current or returning students seeking practical experience in municipal engineering. Reporting to the Municipal Certified Engineering Technician this role will provide site inspection services, create, update and maintain assets and attributes as required utilizing ArcGIS software. This position is pending grant funding approval and will be a minimum of 14 weeks starting in May 2026.

Residents are advised that Nova Scotia Power has scheduled a planned power outage for Thursday, March 19.

Work will be near the intersection of Pleasant Street and Gaspereau Avenue to repair a damaged utility pole. As a result, customers in the surrounding area may experience power interruptions for up to six hours.

The outage is expected to begin at approximately 9:30 a.m.

With the weekend of March 21 approaching, the Town is anticipating an increase in activity in close to campus neighbourhoods.

The Town will be working with community partners, and there will be an increased presence from Compliance staff and the RCMP throughout the weekend. This presence helps ensure that any issues related to unsanctioned gatherings or other concerns can be addressed quickly.
