Special Olympics Nova Scotia is hosting the Provincial Summer Games at Acadia University July 7 to 9. To start the games, athlete Peter Sheehan will accompany the torch along Main Street from Willow Park to Raymond Field in a procession starting at 4:30pm on Friday July 7.
The athlete will be joined by both the RCMP and Wolfville Fire Department volunteers and everyone is encouraged to cheer on the procession as it makes it way along Main Street for the opening ceremonies that begin at 5pm.
The road will remain open at this time but motorists should expect delays.
With more than 800 athletes and coaches attending the games, and over 300 supporting volunteers, it is definitely going to be an action packed weekend. Competition will take place in Track and Field, Bocce, Soccer, Golf, Softball, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Swimming and Basketball.
Teams will be representing Amherst, Annapolis, Cape Breton, Clare, Cobequid, Dartmouth, Eastern Highlands, Halifax, Kings, Lunenburg Queens, Pictou, Sackville/Bedford, Shelburne and Yarmouth and Special Olympics New Brunswick and Special Olympics Prince Edward Island.
Competition begins on Friday at 7pm and wraps up on Sunday afternoon at venues in Wolfville and New Minas. For a complete schedule of events, please visit www.sons.ca
