The RCMP (Police) Advisory Board plays a key role in local governance, providing advice to Town Council in relation to the enforcement of law, the maintenance of law and order, and the prevention of crime in Wolfville as per Section 68(1) of the Police Act. The board brings forward community perspectives to support effective policing.
This vacancy is for the Ministerial appointment and will be an external process. The duties of the person in this capacity are the same as other civilian members on the board with the additional task of being the contact person between the Department of Justice and the Advisory Board.
In order to be considered for this role, you must complete an Oath of office or affirmation before assuming duties and adhere to a code of conduct prescribed by the regulations. 2004, c. 31, s. 58.
Under Section 82 of the Police Act, you must consent to criminal and background checks.. A person may not be appointed if criminal and background checks show that the person has been convicted of any criminal offence or has been or is the subject of a disciplinary proceeding in any jurisdiction that, in the opinion of the council, would reasonably be expected to have a negative impact on their acting as an advisory board member or on the advisory board generally.
Commitment: the committee meets at least 4 times per year on Tuesdays 10am-12pm.
