Students share insights and ideas

acadia class

On December 4, three of Dr. Cynthia Alexander’s classes at Acadia University showcased their work during a celebration hosted in partnership with the Town of Wolfville.

Students presented to Council members and staff, sharing their learning and insights for how to deepen democracy in Canada, how to amplify the policy needs and interests of Indigenous peoples in a time of reconciliation, and how to address the poor Social Determinants of Health faced by Black Canadians, including African Nova Scotians, by prioritizing Black-led, Black-serving and Black-mandated policy options.

Students also shared their recommendations and ideas about how they think the Town of Wolfville could continue to advance its Equity and Anti-Racism Plan (2025).

This initiative provided direct access between students and the Town to inspire collaboration and co-design of programs and policies. This partnership also supported Dr. Alexander’s students when they created the first-ever, student-led, community-campus Indigenous Film Mawio’mi from September 28 – October 4, in partnership with the Town of Wolfville and funded by the Department of Politics.
