In March, representatives from the Town of Wolfville, the Acadia Students’ Union and Acadia University signed a renewed memorandum of understanding after an informal partnership review.
The signing, which was part of a regularly scheduled Town and Gown Committee meeting on March 2 saw Wolfville Mayor, Jodi MacKay, ASU President, Yas Jawad, and Acadia University President, Dr. Jeff Hennessy, put their names to the document that maps shared goals and key principles.
The memorandum of understanding commits to a collaborative, inclusive approach between the partners.
Yas Jawad represented the Acadia Students’ Union at the March meeting. Jawad emphasized students are an essential part of the Wolfville community.
“By strengthening communication and partnership, we can ensure that students not only study here but also feel welcomed as engaged residents who contribute meaningfully to the social, cultural, and economic life of the town.”
Wolfville Mayor, Jodi MacKay, echoed that sentiment.
“We are stronger together,” said MacKay. “This document captures our commitment to making Wolfville an exceptional place to live, work and study.”
Dr. Jeff Hennessy, President and Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University, noted the value of the relationship that continues between the partners.
“When we say that Acadia University is like nowhere else, that is very much anchored in our relationship with the Town of Wolfville,” Dr. Hennessy said. “Acadia and Wolfville have almost 200 years of closely shared history. Our students, represented here by the ASU, our faculty and staff, and the people of Wolfville are one community succeeding together.”
The memorandum of understanding maps a forward path with a focus on all the success that is possible when the partners work together.
