A special election has been called to fill a vacancy on Council. The nomination period closed at the end of day on November 15 and there are now 3 (three) candidates on the ballot.

• Ian PALMETER

Voter qualifications

You will be able to vote in Wolfville’s special election if you meet the following criteria:

• You are 18 years of age or older and a Canadian citizen on or before the first advance poll day (December 1, 2022);
• You have been ordinarily resident in Nova Scotia for 6 months before the first advance poll day (since June 1, 2022); and
• You are ordinarily resident in the Town of Wolfville and have been so since immediately before the first advance poll day (as of December 1, 2022).

By casting a ballot or by entering the electronic voting system and entering your assigned PIN number, you are declaring that you are eligible to vote in this election.

Voting

Wolfville will be using a hybrid voting system that provides internet, phone or in-person options for returning your ballot. The electronic voting period (internet and phone) runs from December 1 to December 9, 2022.

Election Day, December 10, from 8:00am – 7:00pm

Your voter’s letter will be mailed on Tuesday, November 22. It contains your unique PIN and instructions for online and phone voting.

Residents on temporary water with regards to the Highland Avenue project, please be advised there are freezing temperatures in the forecast. Per the handout you received, residents are asked to run a faucet at a well drained sink in a pencil sized continuous stream on nights when the temperature is expected to drop below zero degrees Celsius. 

Please be advised there will be minor traffic disruptions on Wickwire Avenue throughout the day today, Thursday, November 17. The road will remain open and not be detoured, but down to one lane of traffic in the vicinity of Wickwire Ave and Little Brook Lane, crews are paving in that area today

Congratulations to Bob Lutes.

Bob was nominated by the Town as Volunteer of the Year and that he was recognized at a ceremony on Nov. 7 by the Lieutenant General of Nova Scotia.

As a university town, Wolfville welcomes many young women and men to our residential neighborhoods. Bob has worked very hard to nurture positive relationships, forging lifelong friendships with many students over the years, offering unconditional support and mentorship.

When pandemic restrictions changed the social dynamic of the community, students lacked recreational activities and social opportunities, resulting in negative impacts in campus neighborhoods. Bob started the Good Neighbours group to ensure issues were being discussed with residents, student leaders, town staff and University administration to work towards reasonable solutions.

Bob’s tenacity keeps him working to increase awareness and understanding amongst community stakeholders and continues to inspire positive change in our community.
