Request for Quotation: WOL013-2022: 2022/2023 Bulk Salt Hauling

The Town of Wolfville is accepting quotes for the hauling of bulk road salt from Pugwash, Nova Scotia to Wolfville, Nova Scotia for the 2022/2023 season.

Quotation forms and specifications are available electronically by emailing kouterleys@wolfville.ca.

Submissions for this project will only be received by email to: kouterleys@wolfville.ca.

All Quotes must be submitted by email by closing time 2:00 p.m., local time, October 4th, 2022.

The Kings REMO Regional Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) will de-activate as of 12:00pm, Sunday, September 25th.

Recovery efforts across Kings County will continue to be monitored remotely by the Regional Emergency Management Coordinator. The Kings County “Public Hotline” will no longer be monitored as of 12:00pm, Sunday, September 25th.

After a long night of punishing winds and relentless rain, Fiona is making her way out of the province.

Our Kings Regional Emergency Management Organization activated on Friday evening and staff from member towns and municipalities will continue to provide 24-hour staffing of the Emergency Coordination Centre until our communities are operating in the usual manner.

At this time, all members of the community are asked to stay off the roads so that our crews can make a dent in the storm clean-up. For Wolfville, this means clearing downed trees and debris.

Power concerns can be communicated directly to Nova Scotia Power.

For those who are starting to lose battery charge on devices or for those who are in need of water, or warmth, local comfort centres may activate. Port Williams is the first to announce this intention and a full list, and activation status can be found through Kings REMO.

To assist with clean-up efforts, the Wolfville Compost Site will be open to residents on Sunday from 11am - 4pm.

During this time of recovery, please take a moment to check-in on friends and neighbours and reach-out to those who might not have access to digital messaging. 

Based on forecast track for Hurricane Fiona, the Kings REMO Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC), located at 181 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, will activate with municipal staff to support Emergency First Responders. 

The Town of Wolfville is a partner Kings REMO and will be assisting with this operation.

The Kings REMO ECC is a facility where key municipal personnel and other agencies involved in the response gather to support activities taking place at the site(s) of the emergency while facilitating a coordinated response.

The Kings County Regional Emergency Coordination Centre will have a “Public Hotline” available for the public to call in should they have concerns about the impacts of Hurricane Fiona.

The number for the Kings REMO Public Hotline is 902-690-6112. The Kings REMO “Public Hotline” will be available for citizens to call as of 7:00 pm, Friday, September 23, 2022. If your issue is an emergency, you should still call 9-1-1 and not the Public Hotline.

Remember, if an emergency happens in your community, it may take emergency workers some time to reach you. You should be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for a minimum of 72 hours.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - Our Fall Clean-up collection contractor is being impacted by the labour shortage affecting all area of Nova Scotia. As a result, there will be a change to Fall Clean-up for residents who receive regular collection on Thursday Week 2 and Friday Week 2. This includes the Town of Wolfville, Village of New Minas, Hants Border, Glooscap First Nation, and the Gaspereau Valley.

Your Clean-up week will move from 26th - 30th September to 24th - 28th October. All materials should go roadside the weekend before and no later than 7:00am on October 24th. All other areas who receive Clean-up collection by Valley Waste are not affected and will occur as previously scheduled. Thank you! 

The Cittaslow Sunday event scheduled for today (Sunday, Sept. 18), is postponed until Sunday, September 25 due to the rain.
