It's back for another year - the Welcome to Wolfville Street Party!

Please drop by Main Street on Monday, September 1st from 1 - 4pm to help welcome all of our new residents and help them feel right at home in our amazing community.

Who should attend? Everyone!

This is a family-friendly event to help new residents, new and returning students, and folks of all ages connect and celebrate the spirit of our Town and Gown community.

The street party features free food, games, music by DJ Kiwi and Freddy Mujica with Live Latin Dance Lessons from Annapolis Valley Dance Company as well as info booths offering Town and Acadia info so drop by, meet the neighbours and help us build community at this family-friendly event.

The event happens on Main Street from Elm Avenue to Central Avenue. 

A road closure of Main Street, from Elm Ave to Harbourside Drive, begins at 10:00am on Sept. 1st and will end at 6:00pm to provide a safe space for the 2025 Welcome to Wolfville Community Street Fair event.

This event is designed to bring together students and the community to celebrate in an inclusive, welcoming, safe, and memorable manner.

Thank you for moving your vehicles from Main Street before 10:00am on Monday, September 1st.

With no significant, soaking rain in the forecast, we invite and encourage all residents and businesses to consider making water conservation efforts.

The Town of Wolfville is within a region that is experiencing a state of moderate drought (as defined by Agriculture Canada) and even small conservation efforts can be effective as these conditions persist.

These voluntary measures are proactive and can lessen the pressure on our aquifer (where our water comes from) during this prolonged drought.

The Town is monitoring water levels and total daily water use. If this dry period continues and voluntary conservation measures are not effective, mandatory water use restrictions may be enacted through a water conservation directive.

Let’s all do our part to conserve water until conditions improve.

Here are some great ways to save water:

• Limiting outdoor water use (lawn and garden watering, car washing)
• Always shut off hoses and taps when not in use
• Use a hose nozzle for quick and frequent shut-off
• Avoid filling pools, including splash pools and hot tubs
• Cover pools when not in use
• Allow lawns to become dormant during dry periods, including brown or yellow grass
• Sweep paved areas rather than washing with a hose
• Install low water-use fixtures
• Fix leaks, dripping taps, running toilets
• If it’s yellow, let it mellow

Here are some questions we think you might ask:

Q. Where does the Town’s water come from?

A. The Town of Wolfville Water Utility operates wells at Cherry Lane and Wickwire Avenue which draw raw water from an underground aquifer. This water is pumped to a treatment facility and reservoir off Ridge Road. For more information on the Town’s water source, see the updated Source Water Protection Plan.

Q. When will these voluntary measures become mandatory?

A. The Town continues to monitor source water conditions (monitoring water levels and total daily water use). Mandatory measures will only be considered if necessary.

Q. What can I do if I notice my neighbours using lots and lots of water?

A. Lead by example and welcome others into a gentle conversation about the importance of water conservation.

Q. What about the splash pad?

A. With the ponds closed at Reservoir Park, we are keeping the splash pad open as long as we can.

Q. What about local businesses?

A. Businesses are encouraged to follow the measures described to the best of their ability and do what they can.

Q. What efforts is the Town making?

A. The Town has delayed hydrant flushing, is only irrigating and watering during the overnight hours or early morning, and we are limiting water use during fire training.

Q. What about Acadia?

A. Acadia is supporting in conservation efforts across campus. 

Q. Does this impact firefighting in the Town?

A. While our trucks may not be cleaned as often. There will be no impact to fire response.

Former Town Councillor, David Mangle, has died.

David served three terms on Wolfville Council, from 2004 to 2012 and is remembered as a teacher, a musician, and an activist. He was one of the founding members of the Wolfville Peace Vigil and is remembered by friends as a champion of the downtrodden.

David attended the celebratory swearing-in ceremony of Council at the end of October last year, enjoying a place of honour in the front row, and some laughs. He is pictured above, with former Mayor, Jeff Cantwell.

Flags have been lowered to half-mast to honour David’s contributions and Council wish to extend their sincere condolences to all those who are grieving this loss.

The Town of Wolfville is inviting applications for a full-time, permanent Manager of Environmental Services. Reporting to the Director of Planning & Public Works, this role provides leadership in the operation, maintenance, and emergency preparedness of the Town’s water and wastewater systems. You will oversee compliance, capital planning, and workforce management, ensuring these essential services are safe, reliable, and sustainable.

This position leads a team of three utility operators and provides strategic advice on critical infrastructure, including water distribution/treatment and wastewater collection/treatment. You will also contribute to broader infrastructure initiatives such as project management, asset management, and consultant coordination, while working closely with staff, Council, and community partners such as Acadia University. With major upgrades underway, this is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact on one of Nova Scotia’s most vibrant towns.

We are seeking candidates with experience in water and wastewater management, or related technical or project management backgrounds, who thrive in a collaborative environment. The ability to juggle multiple priorities is essential; please tell us about your “juggling” experience in your cover letter.

The concrete sidewalk in front of the Al Whittle and Just Us, at 450 Main is being replaced with work scheduled to begin on Monday, August 25.

The contractor is doing the removal and reinstatement in a two-part process to allow as much pedestrian access as possible. The contractor will be removing half of the width of the sidewalk closest to Main Street first to allow pedestrians to walk on the area of the sidewalk next to the building while allowing access to the entrance doors of the theater.

Once the Main Street side of the sidewalk is removed and reinstated with compacted gravel, pedestrians will be directed to travel on the street side of the sidewalk while they remove the concrete next to the building and the entrance to the theater and coffee shop.

This will impact customers to the main entrance of 450 Main on Monday and possibly into Tuesday. The estimated time to fully complete this project is 5-7 days and the crosswalk running across Main to Linden Ave will be closed until the project is completed.

While noise is expected during this project, the contractor is working to minimize impact on Just Us patrons and we all look forward to this repair being completed.
